Plumage change

There are subtle signs of change, unseeing maturing,
Outgrowing youth, like birds changing colors of feathers.
Some things are left behind when one is growing.
Snakes shed skin; man sheds attitudes, picks what matters.

Choosing beliefs and attitudes as if standing in a freeway,
So many passing, going fast in all directions.
One wishes to find its soul, to find the way,
But instead is lost in someone else’s reflections.

In a moment of enlightment the truth can be seen.
By friction with hardships and rose thorns,
One can shed and leave behind its old skin,
Learning new ways of dealing with old flaws.
